Poker Hand Rankings
- Royal Flush: A Royal Flush consists of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten all in the same suit. For example, ace through ten of hearts.
- Straight Flush: A Straight Flush consists of any sequence of five cards that are of the same suit. For example, Four, Five, Six, Seven, and Eight of spades.
- Four of a Kind: A Four of a Kind is made up of any four of the same card value. For example, four Queens. If more than one player has a Four of a Kind, the winner is determined by the value of the four – four of a kind queens will beat out four of a kind fives.
- Full House: A full house is made up of three of a kind, with a pair. For example, Three fives and a pair of threes would be a full house.
- Flush: Any hand that consists of all the same suit is a flush. As an example, all five of the cards in a hand would be one suit, such as hearts.
- Straight: A Straight is any 5 card sequence that is off varying suits. For example, a Queen of hearts, Jack of spades, Ten of diamonds, Nine of spades, and an Eight of clubs would make up a Straight.
- Three of a Kind: Three of a Kind is quite explanatory; three cards of the same value. As an example, you might have three Queens in your hand.
- Two Pair: Having two separate pairs of cards is called “Two Pair”. As an example, you could have two Queens in your hand and two Fives.
- Pair: A pair is simply two cards of the same value. For example, you could have two fives.
- High Card: A high card is mainly the best card in your hand. This can make or break your hand. If you and one of your opponents have a pair of twos and you have a high card, Ace, and they have a high card of ten, you will win the hand. This isn't exactly a hand. If you are basing your game on a high card, your best bet is to fold before you bid too much.
